Rx. Trichosanthis Tian Hua Fen 8-16g Relieves toxicity, expels pus and reduces swelling.
Cx. Phellodendri Huang Bai 3-12g Drains Fire and relieves Fire toxicity.
With Cang Zhu, eliminates Dampness and clears Heat for Damp-Heat sores.
Rx. et Rz. Rhei Da Huang 3-15g Invigorates the Blood, dispels Blood Stasis, clears Heat, reduces Fire toxicity and eliminates Phlegm.
Rz. Curcumae Longae Jiang Huang 3-10g Invigorates Blood, eliminates Blood Stasis, promotes the movement of Qi, opens the channels and collaterals to alleviate pain and reduces swelling.
With Da Huang and Bai Zhi, topically for swelling , and pain during the early stages of sores.
With Da Huang, Tian Hua Fen and Bai Zhi, for sores and lesions.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
  • External application only.
HERB/DRUG INTERACTIONS
  • This formula is usually made into a paste or plaster using tea water, honey, fresh juice from Flos Chrysanthemi Indici Ye Ju Hua, sesame oil, wine, petroleum jelly, etc.
  • For hot swellings it is best with green tea and/or a tea from Flos Chrysanthemi Indici Ye Ju Hua.
  • Tea made from Chinese scallions can be used to make a paste for encouraging the expulsion of pus.
  • Use yellow wine to soften carbuncles and expel pus
  • Mix with black vinegar if the infection is deeper.
  • Sesame oil can be used for burns or lacquer sores or daubed on herpes sores
  • If the powder dries on the skin one should spray a bit of warm water to rehydrate it.
  • Depending on the type of condition it is recommended to to cover the head of the sore (e.g. as for boils) so as to help facilitate eruption.
